Privacy, location, and AI.
Last updated: July 11, 2026
My Van AI is built to help van travelers find nearby road needs, Safe Stay leads, saved spots, route ideas, and navigation handoff. This policy explains what information may be used when you run the Android beta.
Information My Van AI may use
- Location: GPS wakes on demand when you tap an action that needs your location, such as Water Fill, Fuel, Safe Stay, Save Current Spot, or route/map handoff. A fresh one-shot fix is sent to My Van AI services over HTTPS so nearby results can be found; a new update replaces the prior latest-location record, and that record expires after 24 hours.
- Moving Cover: If you explicitly start Moving Cover, location and command checks continue in an Android foreground session until you pause it or Android stops the session. It does not restart after reboot or silently turn on from one-shot actions.
- Vehicle and trip context: Your vehicle size/setup, road comfort, route preferences, and trip requests may be used to suggest better-fitting stops.
- Saved places: Spots you save may synchronize privately under this installation's device identity and are used to show your saved list, private notes, and backups you choose to export or import.
- Other cloud content: Kitchen inventory, overnight candidates and reports, pending navigation commands, and imported community or social leads may be stored privately for app functionality. Pending commands expire after 7 days; user-created content remains until you delete it.
- Installation identity: The service issues a private, revocable installation credential. The backend stores its hash rather than the credential itself.
- AI messages: Things you type or say to the co-pilot may be sent to My Van AI services and the selected AI provider so the assistant can answer.
- Diagnostics: Basic connection, app, and error details may be used to test the beta and keep the service working.
- Contact info: If you email to join the beta or request support, your email and message are used to respond.
How information is used
- Find nearby public road needs like water, fuel, food, propane, trash, and dump stations.
- Generate Safe Stay and route-ahead suggestions.
- Hand selected stops to Google Maps, Waze, or your chosen navigation app.
- Personalize results for your rig and travel style.
- Run AI features through OpenRouter/free or a model/key you choose.
- Debug the beta, protect the service, and respond to support requests.
Sharing and third parties
My Van AI does not sell personal information. The app may send limited data to service providers that make the app work, including hosting/API infrastructure, AI providers such as OpenRouter or a provider you configure, map/navigation apps you choose, and email/support tools.
When you open Google Maps, Waze, or another navigation app, that app receives the destination or route information needed for navigation and handles it under its own privacy policy.
Your choices
- You can deny or change Android location permission in system settings.
- You can edit or delete saved spots, export all cloud data—including non-secret installation registration metadata—to a private document, or permanently delete active-service cloud records in Settings. Successful cloud deletion revokes that installation credential.
- After cloud deletion, My Van AI clears the raw data namespace but retains non-reversible bootstrap and credential hashes plus revocation timestamps indefinitely as a security tombstone. This prevents deleted credentials from being reused and does not retain the deleted location or user content.
- You can choose whether to bring your own AI API key/model override.
- You can stop using the beta and uninstall the app at any time. Uninstalling removes local app data but does not itself submit a verified deletion request for backend records.
- You may also email [email protected] for a privacy or deletion request.
Safety and verification
My Van AI provides leads, not guarantees. Always verify signs, rules, closures, hours, access, weather, and road conditions before driving, parking, sleeping, filling, dumping, or using a public bin.
